GOBLIN-Spatial Harmonised LPIS Parcel Inputs for Irish Grassland and Land-Use Opportunity Analysis, 2020 and 2025

This dataset contains reduced and harmonised parcel-level spatial inputs derived from the Irish Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine (DAFM) anonymised Land Parcel Identification System (LPIS) datasets for 2020 and 2025. The files were prepared for reproducible downstream land-use and grassland-opportunity analysis within GOBLIN-Spatial. The derived datasets retain the parcel geometry and the subset of LPIS attributes required for agricultural land accounting and opportunity screening. These include parcel identifiers, claimed, digitised and eligible areas, crop or land-use descriptions, commonage indicators and ownership fractions, Areas of Natural Constraint (ANC), agri-environment scheme indicators (GLAS in 2020 and ACRES in 2025), organic status, and relevant grassland and environmental land-use classifications. The 2025 dataset additionally retains the LPIS reference-area variable and the official grassland indicator. Particular attention was given to commonage accounting. Raw parcel geometry cannot be summed directly because commonage polygons may occur repeatedly for different claimants. Commonage-adjusted eligible and spatial-area diagnostics therefore use the recorded commonage numerator and denominator, while claimed area is retained as the principal agricultural accounting quantity. The 2020 reduced dataset contains 1,362,738 LPIS records. The 2025 reduced modelling dataset contains 1,543,817 populated LPIS records; 3,378,257 geometry records without LPIS agricultural attributes in the source GeoPackage were identified during quality assurance and are excluded from the reduced modelling dataset. Both datasets use the Irish Transverse Mercator coordinate reference system (EPSG:2157). Within GOBLIN-Spatial, these parcel datasets are not used to determine livestock populations or to replace the authoritative Electoral Division-level grassland accounting variable. Instead, they provide downstream spatial evidence on the composition and characteristics of grassland after the livestock scenario engine has estimated potential spared grassland. Parcel information is subsequently intersected with Electoral Division boundaries and aggregated to Electoral Division-level controls for opportunity analysis. The resulting framework supports the evaluation of potentially spared grassland in relation to permanent pasture, low-input and extensive grassland, temporary grass, hay meadow, peat-associated grassland, riparian grassland, commonage, ANC, agri-environment participation, organic farming, habitat, forestry and related land-use contexts. Original data ownership and attribution remain with the Irish Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine. This Zenodo record preserves the processed inputs used by GOBLIN-Spatial so that the spatial preprocessing and scenario analyses can be reproduced consistently from the same frozen data versions
