资源简介:

Snow density measurements were taken towards the southwest corner of the Arctic System Science (ARCSS) grid at Barrow, Alaska. Cores were taken along a rough transect that ran from relatively shallow snow, through relatively deep snow to relatively shallow snow again. These cores were taken using 2 different sized diameter black PVC tubes that were hammered to ground level and then dug out to retrieve the snow core. The cores were placed in zip-loc bags and weighed after returning to the lab at BARC (Barrow Arctic Research Center). The Systems Ecology Lab (SEL) long depth probe was used (orange tape on the handle). Data have been corrected by subtracting 3cm from measurements made in the field to account for the missing tip of the probe. Using this field data a calculation of Snow Water Equivalence (SWE) was calculated for this area.
