Emergence of phage infection resistance in Staphyloccocus aureus

Staphylococcus aureus is a common human and animal commensal that can become an opportunistic pathogen. The emergence of antibiotic resistant strains, such as methicillin resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA), is considered an important public health problem. Bacteriophages are an alternative to antibiotics treatments; however, the emergence of infection resistance bacteria is frequent and has been seen as an important issue for widespread bacteriophage therapy use. Here, we described the interactions and dynamics between a novel lytic Rosenblumvirus phage and an S. aureus isolated from Brazilian artisanal cheese using comparative genome analysis, highlighting the emergence of infection resistant bacteria.
