2006年～2023年 世界のESG関連ETF資産額

ESG（環境・社会・ガバナンス）関連の課題への取り組みに積極的な銘柄に投資するETF（上場投資信託）の資産総額は、2006年の50億米ドルから2023年11月には4,800億米ドルとなり、急激に増加しました。ETFを含むサステナブル投資をリードしているのは、主に欧米を中心とする先進国の株式市場です。 
ESG基準 
ESG基準とは、投資家が投資先を検討する際に、企業の業績を評価するための判断基準のことです。環境面では、企業の環境保護への取り組みが価値判断の対象となり、社会的側面では、地域社会への貢献や利害関係者（ステークホルダー）との関係性が評価されます。さらに、ガバナンスにおいては、企業の内部統制やステークホルダーの権利、役員報酬が審査の対象となります。こうしたESG基準は、投資の意思決定において重要な要素となっています。356名の投資家を対象としたある調査では、ESGが企業のコア戦略の一部となることを投資家の大半が期待していたことがわかっています。 
ESGの影響 
近年ESGの重要性が高まるにつれて、多くの企業がより高い評価を得ようと取り組んでいますが、時価総額上位25社のESGスコアには依然としてばらつきが見られます。フランス、日本、シンガポール、ドイツでは、上級管理職に就く従業員の約半数がESGへのコミットメントを表明しており、こうした動きは世界的に広がっています。また、投資家の間でもESGを重要視する動きが高まっており、約3分の1が、ESG関連の目標に対する取り組みが不十分であると感じた場合、その企業の株を売却するとしています。 

Investments in ETFs (Exchange Traded Funds) that actively pursue efforts related to ESG (environment, social, and governance) issues have seen a dramatic increase, with the total assets of such ETFs soaring from $5 billion in 2006 to $480 billion as of November 2023. The leading force in sustainable investments, including ETFs, is primarily the stock markets of advanced countries centered around Europe and the United States. ESG Criteria ESG criteria refer to the judgment standards that investors use to evaluate the performance of potential investment targets. In terms of the environment, the efforts of companies to protect the environment become the subject of value assessment, while in the social aspect, contributions to local communities and the relationships with stakeholders (interested parties) are evaluated. Furthermore, in governance, the internal controls of the company, the rights of stakeholders, and executive compensation are subject to review. Such ESG criteria have become a crucial element in investment decision-making. A survey of 356 investors revealed that the majority of investors expect ESG to become a part of the core strategy of enterprises. ESG's Impact With the increasing importance of ESG in recent years, many companies have been working to achieve higher evaluations, but there is still considerable variation in the ESG scores of the top 25 companies by market capitalization. Approximately half of the employees in senior management positions in France, Japan, Singapore, and Germany have publicly declared their commitment to ESG, and such actions are spreading globally. Moreover, there is a growing trend among investors to prioritize ESG, with about one-third indicating that they would sell the stock of a company if they felt that the efforts towards ESG-related goals were insufficient.
