This article analyzes the syntactic and semantic features of prepositional phrases in modern English based on a comprehensive approach. The main aim of the study is to identify the functional role of prepositional phrases within sentence structure, their syntactic positioning, and the types of meanings they convey. The research demonstrates that prepositional phrases can function as adverbials, attributes, and complements, and that they express various meanings depending on the context. Additionally, the study examines the polysemy of prepositions, their collocational properties, and the processes of grammaticalization. The findings indicate that prepositional phrases occupy an important place in the syntactic structure of the English language and possess wide semantic potential. Their accurate interpretation largely depends on context and communicative situation. This study also highlights the importance of integrating both theoretical and practical approaches in the investigation of prepositional units.
