With the increasingly stringent requirements for the reliability, service life, and friction and wear performance of lubricating materials in complex equipment fields such as aerospace and high-tech engineering. Accurately determining the friction and wear characteristics of materials is a prerequisite for revealing the surface structure of friction pairs, the evolution of lubrication performance, the relationship between friction pair damage and lubrication failure behavior, and establishing the design of lubrication and anti-wear materials. Therefore, in response to the needs of friction testing in different working conditions, different configurations, and different scales, determining the overall design scheme of the friction testing platform (mainly composed of mechanical structure and measurement and control system), and developing various types of high-precision friction and wear testing machines would be of paramount importance. This article focuses on the basic principles and development history of friction and wear testing instruments, and elaborates on the performance and main parameters of friction and wear testing machines at home and abroad through different classification methods. Based on research data at home and abroad, the problems and future development trends of domestic friction and wear testing instruments are proposed.
