Independent Sex Workers in Japan

This research explores the experiences, challenges, and working conditions of independent sex workers in Japan, focusing on their demographics, work arrangements, legal awareness, and social perceptions. Given the complex legal status of sex work in Japan, independent workers navigate a landscape shaped by regulations, stigma, and varying degrees of social acceptance. This research seeks to understand how these individuals manage their professional and personal lives, interact with law enforcement, and perceive their rights and protections. By examining their motivations, safety strategies, and policy perspectives, this research aims to contribute to a deeper understanding of the independent sex work industry and inform discussions on legal and social reforms that impact this community.
