Complete genome sequences of Enterococcus raffinosus

Enterococcal urinary tract infections are common and pose a serious health burden, particularly in chronically ill patients. Multidrug resistant enterococci further complicate treatment of urinary tract infection (UTI) and other nosocomial infections caused by these opportunistic pathogens. A member of the genus, E. raffinosus, although less prominent than the genus-dominating E. faecalis and E. faecium, has been predominantly associated with various infections. Despite its clinical significance, few E. raffinosus genome assemblies have been published, and only two are complete. In this study, we report the complete assembly of the first clinical urinary E. raffinosus strain, Er676, isolated from a postmenopausal woman with history of recurrent urinary tract infection (rUTI). We additionally completed the closed assembly of clinical type strain ATCC49464.
