CTD Bottle and Surface Oceanographic Data from ICES

This data consists of:
(1) Surface data. These include all data collected at depths of <10m from
the bottle, CTD and underway/pump data. The number of observations in
the selected area is about 1.18 million for the period 1890-2002.

(2) Bottle and low resolution CTD data. These are available for the
period 1900-1994. There are about 462,000 profiles

(3) High resolution CTD data for the period from 1972 to 1999. 62,932
profiles.

All data are in spreadsheet (.txt) Format in various files, depending
on the dataset type, in each ZIP archive. The files cover the periods
1890-1899, 1900-1949, 1950-1969, 1970-1979, 1980-1989, 1990-1994 and
1995-present.

The format of the .txt files is the ODV generic spreadsheet
format. ODV (Ocean Data View) is a visualisation tool for
oceanographic station data and these files can be viewed in ODV by
opening the zip file (double click on link) and dragging the ".txt"
files onto the odv icon. ODV can be installed via the installation
program available from "http://www.awi-bremerhaven.de/GEO/ODV/".

Most of the above data are also available online and on CD-ROM on the
World Ocean DataBase 2001 web site at
"http://www.nodc.noaa.gov/"
