Anatomy and evolution of the head of the sausagefly and the driver ants, the male and females of Dorylus helvolus (Formicidae: Dorylinae)

Critical-point dried head of a Dorylus helvolus male from Silaka Reserve (-31.6511° 29.5086°) South Africa (P. Jaɫoszynski, 17 Nov 2019). Head placed in a pipette tip, then scanned with a Bruker SkySkan 2211 (Max-Planck-Institut für Menschheitgeschichte, Jena, Germany), without a filter. The energy was set at 40 kV, current 300 µA, exposure 1.9 s, with a resultant voxel size of 1.10 µm; the scan was performed in microfocus mode with a 0.18° rotation step to about 360°.
