The ribosomal RNA genes are encoded in large, tandemly repeated arrays (rDNA). Strains within a species can vary in their rDNA copy number. We used Nextera-based whole genome sequencing to genotype a set of C. elegans wild isolates with a wide range of rDNA copy numbers. These strains have all be verified in their rDNA copy number by pulsed-field gel electrophoresis.
