资源简介:

Code by Brian Pinke and Allison Pfeiffer, based on B.P.'s M.S. Thesis in Geology at Western Washington University 2024 This repository is associated with the manuscript "Vanishing volcanics: Implications of mass wasting deposit sediment heterogeneity on downstream abrasion and the fluvial hazard cascade", submitted in Oct 2025 for publication at Geomorphica. The work is focused on understanding the rock clast size, strength, and abrasion potential in 5 different volcanic mass wasting deposits in the Pacific Northwest. This work was funded by NSF GLD Award #2138504 to A. Pfeiffer. Contents This repository includes the data and scripts required to create the manuscript figures. Data: 1. FinnTubmlingData.xlsx : Abrasion rates and densities of rocks measured by Finn Coffin, undergrad thesis.2. Goudie2006RockStrength.xlsx : Tables 1 and 2 from Goudie 2006*3. PinkeTumbling2023_USE.xlsx : Abrasion rates and densities of rocks measured by Brian Pinke, M.S. thesis.4. SHRS_Abrasion_Data.xlsx : Abrasion rates and densities of rocks measured by Allison Pfeiffer and used in Pfeiffer et al. 2022**5. SuiattleFieldData_Combined20182019.xlsx : Clast lithology, size, strength measurements by Allison Pfeiffer and used in Pfeiffer 2022**6. fieldbook_data_2023_USE.xlsx : Clast lithology, size, strength measurements by Brian Pinke, M.S. thesis. Scripts: 1. Fig3-PieChartFig.py: Creates (undecorated) pie charts that are the basis for Figure 3. 2. Fig5-GSDFig.py: Creates the 6 panel figure of grain size distributions from each mass wasting deposit. 3. Fig6-SHRSvsAbrDensFig.py: Creates two figures (uncombined) that make up Figure 6, establishing Schmidt Hammer Rock Strength as a proxy for both fluvial abrasion rate and clast density. 4. Fig7-AbrasionSedTransportFig.py: Modeled coarse material abrasion downstream. Also creates supplemental figures 3 and 4.5. Fig9_lastpanel_DowstreamAbrasionPickle.py: This script should be run after GoudieDownstreamAbrasion, and adds to the pickled output of Goudie, creating a model for downstream abrasion based on hypothetical uniform SHRS values. 6. Figs4and8-SHRSPlots.py: Creates summary plots of the SHRS of the deposits (Fig 4) and the Goudie global compilation (Fig 8). Also creates supplemental figure 1, SHRS of each deposit broken up by exposure.7. Goudie_DownstreamAbrasion.py: Models downstream abrasion using Goudie compilation, the basis for the created pickled figure. 8. SHRSvsSizeFig.py: Creates suuplemental figure 3 comparing SHRS vs grain size. *Goudie 2006: The Schmidt Hammer in Geomorphological Research. **Pfeiffer et al. 2022: Survival of the Strong and the Dense: Field Evidence for Rapid, Transport-Dependent Bed Material Abrasion of Heterogeneous Source Lithology.
