Enhancement of partial denitrification by nirS-deficient strain of Pseudomonas aeruginosa in treatment of liquor brewing wastewater

Chinese liquor brewing wastewater, characteristic as a high-strength organic wastewater in China, poses significant treatment challenges due to its substantial production volume, complex composition, and low carbon-to-nitrogen ratio in anaerobic effluent. This study explores the enhancement of a combined partial denitrification- anammox process bioaugmented with a nirS mutant of Pseudomonas aeruginosa. We specifically investigated its effects on nitrite accumulation rate and nitrogen removal efficiency using real anaerobic effluent from Baijiu wastewater treatment plants.
