Number of refugees and asylum seekers in Nigeria 2021, by age and gender

As of March 2021, there were over 70 thousand refugees and asylum seekers in Nigeria. Female refugees and asylum seekers were slightly more than males. In particular, in the group of people aged 18 to 59 years, there were 18.6 thousand women and 14.6 thousand men. Among the different countries of origin of refugees in Nigeria, Cameroon is the most common. Cameroonians flee from violence ongoing between security forces and armed groups to their neighboring country Nigeria.
