De novo whole genome assembly of clinical Plasmodium knowlesi

Firstly the study was carried out to determine the viability of whole genomes sequenced from thawed Plasmodium knowlesi-infected whole blood. A method for leucocyte-depletion was developed to generate parasite-enriched DNA for whole genome sequencing. Whole genome sequencing was performed on Oxford Nanopore's MinION sequencing platform mainly using the SQK-RBK004 sequencing kit. De novo whole genome assembly and subsequent annotation and analyses were carried out to determine the presence of multi-gene families in the genomes of the assembled isolates. Publication to follow.
