The Hungate Collection includes 410 reference genomes of cultivated bacterial and archaeal members of the rumen microbiome. The rumen microbiome is the community of microorganisms that live in the gastrointestinal system (specifically, the rumen) of the ruminant animal. The project was initiated to generate resources to help understand and eventually modulate the function of the rumen microbiome towards increasing livestock productivity and reducing methane emissions.
