Obesity in Ghana and USA

There is evidence that the gut microbiota play an important role in the development of obesity. Using human samples from geographical distinct sites, we tested how different ecological networks influence obesity development. We characterized 100 women, who were either lean (BMI<25 kg/m2) or obese (BMI≥30 kg/m2), from the US (N=50, 74% obese) and Ghana (N=50, 42% obese), and tested the association of their stool 16S rRNA composition with to obesity .
