In recent years, the advent of the assay for transposase-accessible chromatin using sequencing (ATAC-seq) has enabled the genome-wide profiling of chromatin accessibility in small amounts of frozen tissue. Since accessible chromatin is a hallmark of active DNA regulatory elements, ATAC-seq makes it possible to assess the gene regulatory landscape in human chronic liver diseases.
