TWO-STAGE GAS PURIFICATION AND MODERN SOLUTIONS

The acid gas removal system is designed to remove hydrogen sulfide and mercaptans through the use of a hybrid amine solution that selectively removes hydrogen sulfide and is effective for purifying gas from mercaptans. Acid components such as hydrogen sulfide (H2S), carbon dioxide (CO2), carbonyl sul- fide (COS), and mercaptans (RSH) are removed from the feedstock stream using a chem- ical absorption mechanism. The following describes known chemical reactions involving commonly encountered acid components in the feed stream. The following abbreviated notation (RxN) is used to represent amines (x = 3 for tertiary amines) commonly used in absorption processes. The designation R3N is used to denote methyldiethanolamine (MDEA).
