Multicentre clinical trials are important tools for innovation and development in drugs and medical devices. Our working group has identified shortcomings in the design and reporting of multicentre trials, especially in terms of heterogeneity among different centres. To address this, we are developing CONSORT-MCT 2020, an extension to the CONSORT 2010 Statement, and SPIRIT-MCT Checklist, an extension to the SPIRIT (Standard Protocol Items: Recommendations for Interventional Trials) Statement.
