Email providers of US small-business domains (Google Workspace, Microsoft 365 and others), November 2026

Among 4,081,787 independent US business domains with mail records, Google Workspace receives the mail for 29.4% (1,198,731) and Microsoft 365 for 28.0% (1,142,809). Another 11.5% run mail on their own server or web host, and GoDaddy's own mail service has 4.7%. The split varies by industry. Google is ahead at schools (about 61-63%) and breweries (48.9%). Microsoft is ahead at banks and credit unions (50.8%), senior living (50.4%) and manufacturers (46.3%). The data comes from one DNS lookup per domain (MX, SPF, DMARC) of every website domain on an Overture Maps US place, made 2026-11-02 to 2026-11-03. The provider is read from the lowest-preference MX host. When that host is a filtering gateway, SPF is used to see through it where possible (96,236 Microsoft and 3,500 Google domains). MX shows where mail is received, not necessarily the mailbox. Forwarding services, resellers and unused MX records are discussed in LIMITS.md. The unit is the domain. Every row carries its count and denominator. Breakdowns by industry (Overture category, at least 200 domains) and by state are included. No business names are included.
