The Geology of Australia was a 1976 1:2500000 scale 4 quadrant set
of mapsheets issued by the Bureau of Mineral Resources, Geology and
Geophysics, Canberra, ACT, Australia. This data set is the digital
version of Geology of Australia (1976). The digital data is scanned
from printing separates held by the Australian federal Bureau of
Mineral Resources. The data was then cleaned and coverages created.
It is about 32 megabytes (uncompressed).
Five layers are presented in the dataset: lithology, Cenozoic cover,
faults, lakes, and structure. Lithology information includes bedrock
geology topologically structured. Cenozoic surficial cover (spelled
"Cainozoic" by Australian geologists) is also topologically structured.
Faults are presented as arcs only. Synclines and anticlines are also
presented as arcs only. Lake coverage is topologically structured.
The data is in a Arc/Info GIS form, EXPORT (ArcInfo EXPORT format).
The data is available for $A200.00 plus $15.00 postage/handling in
Australia and $20.00 postage/handling for orders outside Australia
from National Resource Information Centre. Order form from NRIC
