Lithium Ion Battery Fires - WMCA

This file provides data on incidents attended in the West Midlands caused by lithium ion batteries.These batteries may be part of a vehicle (including e-bikes and some e-scooters), or electrical household goods such as e-readers, mobile phones, smart watches, etc, or standalone batteries. Fires involving e-bikes and e-scooters are also provided separately, and though there will be an overlap, some in the e-scooter and e-bike dataset may not be in this dataset if the search for lithium ion batteries did not identify those incidents.Fires caused by battery chargers, such as e-cigarette batteries, are also included.There is currently (in 2024) no way to consistently record that lithium ion batteries were involved in an incident, therefore finding those incidents involves querying and reading typed-in text fields, and depends on the information required for the reader to identify that such batteries are likely to be involved being present. As a result, this may not be a full list of incidents.Incidents provided separately to this dataset may be different due to the manual nature of this process and the specifications of each request.The location data provided is at LSOA level from 2011 geographies. This has been converted to the 2021 geography using the ONS Best Fit Lookup to enable easier mapping with modern layouts.
