Research Experiences for Undergraduates (REU), NSF NHERI 2025: Simulating Geotechnical Engineering Applications with Gaussian Splatting, a Robotic Arm, and Large Language Models

The purpose of this research is to make progress towards building an accurate, easy-to-use, and real-time simulation platform for specific applications in the field of Geotechnical Engineering. The methods in this research can be reused and further built upon by addressing the described limitations of this work. This project is unique because it aims to develop a novel platform for geotechnical engineers to simulate any job they desire to complete. The simulation is meant to work in real-time and take advantage of the power of large language models. Although this research is tailored towards those in the field of Geotechnical Engineering, it can likely be used in many other disciplines as well.
