Glenaras 25 (GA25) was drilled in the southern portion of Authority to Prospect (ATP) 2019, the areal extent of which has been subdivided into Potential Commercial Areas (PCAs) 314 and 315. The well is located approximately 65km northeast of Longreach in central Queensland (Fig 1) and was designed to be a peripheral pilot production well on the southern margin of the greater Glenaras multi-lateral pilot (Fig 2). The primary objective of GA25 was to maximise water extraction from the coals and sands of the Late Permian Betts Creek Beds to enhance depressurisation of the coals for achieving commercial coal seam gas flow. Prior to drilling operations commencing, a 13 3/8 conductor casing was installed to 13.4mRT. GA25 spudded at 12:30hrs on 29th May 2022 with Silver City Rig 23 (Table 1). The 12-1/4 surface hole was drilled vertically to 203mRT into the Allaru Mudstone and 9-5/8 surface casing run to 199.93mRT. An issue with cementing of the surface casing occurred where a valve was left open causing the cement to not be directed into the surface casing annulus. The casing was subsequently pulled out of hole, rerun and the cement job repeated. After the performing a wiper trip and re-running the casing and cementing, the 8-3/4 BHA was run in hole. The cement plug and 1m of new formation were drilled and testing of slow circulation rates (SCRs) occurred. Drilling of the 8-3/4 borehole continued until the Total Depth of 1,058mRT was reached at 12:00hrs on 6th June 2022. The borehole was then wireline logged by Schlumberger to determine the 7 casing design, the hole was circulated clean and a mixed 7 casing string was run to 1053.43mRT. An integrated Stage Tool and Expandable Cement Packer (ECP) was placed immediately above the R1 Seam in the Upper Betts Creek Beds at 940.35mRT (top) to 946.08mRT (base). Beneath the ECP, 7 slotted casing was run across the entire length of the Betts Creek Beds to 1,053.43mRT to allow commingled production from the coals and sands of the full Betts Creek Beds section with the purpose of maximising water extraction and depressurisation of the coals. Above the ECP, the remainder of the hole was blanked off with 7 casing. Silver City Rig 23 was released at 8:00hrs on the 9th June 2022 with GA25 cased and suspended as a future peripheral pilot production well in the greater Glenaras multi-lateral pilot.
