Multi-Omics reveal common features between heterogeneous wastewater biosolids

Biosolids from wastewater treatment are widely used for European soil improvement. However, traditional risk assessments have focused on heavy metals and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, and more comprehensive approaches are needed to understand potential agricultural risks. We used a novel method combining large-scale screening for metabolomics, micropollutants, and lipids with physicochemical analysis, metagenomics and toxicology to identify patterns in six distinct biosolids from two major wastewater treatment systems.
