This study used Oxford Nanopore sequencing technology to examine the genome of Cladophialophora bantiana, a neurotropic dematiaceous fungus associated with primary cerebral phaeohyphomycosis in humans. We found that this fungus has unique metabolic capabilities, allowing it to break down complex carbohydrates and adapt to stressful conditions, such as high temperatures and oxidative damage. We also identified genes related to virulence, which can enhance it's pathogenic potential, as well as genes that might help it resist antifungal treatments. This research sheds light on the genetic traits of this fungus, providing valuable insights for future studies aimed at developing new therapeutic targets and vaccine candidates.
