The correlation between English grammar competence and speaking fluency of students in Thailand

English plays an importance role for people all around the world to communicate as it is a lingua franca. The purpose of this study is to find the relationship between English speaking fluency and grammar competency of Thai EFL learners in Thailand. The participants consisted of 30 Thai EFL students from grade 6 at a school in Thailand, who learn English as a second language. They are members of a tutorial English school in Thailand. The researcher collected the data from a grammar test and an oral speaking test with three interraters and analyzed the data by using Pearson Product-Moment Correlation. The result of the study shows very strong correlation between grammatical competency and speaking fluency in English of Thai EFL learners. The recommendation of the study is to broaden the size of the respondent sample so that the research will be more representative.
