Feed efficiency-related ileal, cecal and fecal microbiomes were studied in chickens reared at two different locations.The gut microbiome contributes to energy-harvesting from food and can therefore influence the feed efficiency of chickens. Here, we used the residual feed intake (RFI) as metric for feed efficiency. If marker phylotypes can be identified across different locations, those may be targeted by dietary interventions or be used as future probiotics to promote feed efficiency in chickens.
