The National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS) and the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) therefore have developed and implemented the Gulf Fishery Independent Survey of Habitat and Ecosystem Resources (G-FISHER), a cooperative monitoring program to locate and characterize reef habitats and subsequently quantify reef fish assemblages with stereo-baited remote underwater video (S-BRUV) arrays throughout the Gulf of America. G-FISHER utilizes a stratified-random survey design where effort is allocated among various spatial and habitat strata, including both natural and artificial reef habitats. Field sampling efforts described within this cruise report contribute directly to this effort.
