Gene database of Citrobacter rodentium ICC168

<i>Citrobacter rodentium</i> is a mucosal pathogen of mice, but it shares many similarities in pathogenic mechanisms with enteropathogenic <i>Escherichia coli</i>. Thus, it is a useful model for studying human gastrointestinal diseases including Crohn’s disease. Whole-genome sequencing technologies have been deployed in understanding the genetic repertoire endowed in <i>C. rodentium</i> that results in disease. In particular, Type III secretion system in the bacterium emerged as the major conduit for the secretion of pathogenic effectors. This resource sought to provide the genetic repertoire of <i>C. rodentium</i> ICC168 by parsing its annotated genome sequence downloaded from Genbank. Through an in-house MATLAB software, the gene name, gene function and gene sequence of all genes in the genome of <i>C. rodentium</i> are constituted into a gene database available for download as an Excel file. Collectively, the presented gene database should provide fundamental knowledge that could guide efforts to postulate useful hypothesis regarding the pathogenesis mechanisms of <i>C. rodentium</i>, as well as serve as the basis for genome editing efforts to construct loss-of-function mutants for studying the effects of particular gene in detail.
