Bacterial Communities of Banana and Plantain Fruits

This study was carried out to determine the bacterial organisms and the bacterial community structure associated with banana (Musa sapientum L.) and plantain (Musa paradisiaca L.) using Illumina next generation sequencing (NGS) platform. The results obtained from this study shows that banana and plantain fruits are associated with both beneficial and pathogenic organisms of human interest. Also, Illumina next generation sequencing can be successfully used to determine bacterial community structure in fruits.
