SLOCLIM v2.0: A high-resolution daily gridded precipitation and temperature dataset for Slovenia (1950–2024)

This dataset represents a complete reconstruction, methodological update, and temporal extension of the original SLOCLIM repository. Developed at a spatial resolution of 500x500 meters, SLOCLIM v2.0 is specifically designed to capture fine-scale climatic variations and extreme climate hazards across Slovenia’s complex topographical transition between the Alpine, Mediterranean, and Continental climate zones. Key features & methodology: Temporal Resolution: Daily steps from January 1, 1950, to December 31, 2024. Spatial Resolution: 500-meter grid cell size. Coordinate Reference System: lon/lat WGS 84 (EPSG:4326) Quality Control: Strict automated and manual quality control protocols were applied to the underlying station networks to eliminate inhomogeneities, biases, and measurement errors. Variables included: pcp: Daily accumulated precipitation (mm) tmax: Daily maximum temperature (°C). tmin: Daily minimum temperature (°C). File format and structure: Data are provided in standard, self-descriptive NetCDF-4 (.nc) format, optimized for seamless integration with GIS environments and programming languages such as R and Python. Related works: This repository stands as an independent, fully updated, and extended successor to the previous SLOCLIM version (available at record/4108543), reflecting a renewed author collaboration, extended temporal coverage, and enhanced processing pipelines. This dataset supports the non-stationary analysis of extreme climate trends in Slovenia.
