GenAI Use in South America

This dataset maps the adoption of Generative Artificial Intelligence in newsrooms across South America, gathering information from 32 news organizations in 10 countries, including Brazil, Argentina, Ecuador, Chile, Uruguay, Paraguay, Peru, Colombia, Venezuela, and Bolivia. The dataset classifies the media outlets by size, and details practical applications of the technology through the following categories: chatbot, summaries, automatic content generation, internal use, images, data, mediated use of generative AI, fact-checking, security/anonymization, transparency, and training. Additionally, the material includes a catalog of primary sources, encompassing newsroom manuals, institutional policies, and case studies, providing an empirical basis for understanding the digital transformation of South American journalism.
