Association of non-host crop plants with mandarin on host location and survival of Diaphorina citri Kuwayama (Hemiptera: Liviidae)

Control of the Asian citrus psyllid (ACP) Diaphorina citri, vector of the causal agent of citrus Huanglongbing (HLB), is important to avoid the spread of the most devastating citrus disease worldwide. However, because ACP management has been difficult, research efforts have been made to develop novel tactics, such as those targeting behavioral control. Here, we investigated whether association of ‘Ponkan’ mandarin (Citrus reticulata) with volatiles of the non-host crop plants: ‘Fortuna’ avocado (Persea americana), passion fruit ‘Maracuja azedo’ (Passiflora edulis) or coffee (Coffea arabica), alter host location by the ACP; and whether these crops can be temporary hosts for the ACP
