In recent years, benthic cyanobacterial mats have become increasingly prevalent in mesotrophic reservoirs worldwide, posing significant threats to water quality through excessive cyanobacterial biomass accumulation and the release of associated metabolites. This study employs metagenomic approaches to investigate dynamic shifts in microbial community structure and metabolic gene profiles during benthic cyanobacterial bloom development. By analyzing functional genes and metabolic pathways, we aim to delineate the relationships between key microbial taxa and biogeochemical nutrients (e.g., nitrogen [N] and phosphorus [P]). These findings will advance our understanding of the microbial mechanisms governing benthic cyanobacterial proliferation and mat formation in reservoir ecosystems.
