Gastrointestinal Microbiome of SARS-CoV-2 Infected Individuals and Macaques

The goals of this study were to assess the bacterial microbiome of the gastrointestinal tract in a non-human primate model of COVID-19 as well as in COVID-19 patients. Human stool or rectal swab samples were provided with informed consent and acute COVID-19 patient samples compared to samples from individuals who had recovered from COVID-19. Rhesus macaques infected with SARS-CoV-2 were sampled longitudinally and the bacterial microbiome of stool samples analyzed from baseline up to day 11 of infection.
