Dataset for "Monitoring of Schmallenberg virus, bluetongue virus and epizootic haemorrhagic disease virus in biting midges in Germany 2019-2023"

Biting midges of the genus Culicoides, caught on livestock farms in Germany from 2019 to 2023, were tested in real-time RT-PCRs for the genome of Schmallenberg virus (SBV), bluetongue virus (BTV) and epizootic hemorrhagic disease virus (EHDV). In addition to the morphological pre-identification of the biting midge species/groups/complexes, the taxa included in virus-positive pools were further determined by species-specific real-time PCRs (Obsoletus Group) or a conventional PCR (Pulicaris Group). The dataset contains information about the trapping of the biting midges, the results of the morphological and molecular biological species identification and quantification cycle values (Cq values) of SBV RNA-positive pools.
