Investigating the Molecular Mechanisms of Stimulator of Interferon Genes (STING) Signalling

Our immune system relies on a protein called STING to defend against infections, viruses, and some cancers. While STING is essential for protection, its overactivation can contribute to autoimmune and neurodegenerative diseases. This thesis investigates how STING interacts with enzymes called kinases to trigger immune responses and how the body regulates this pathway to prevent excessive activation. It also refines methods for predicting kinase activity using computational approaches, providing a framework for future studies. These findings improve our understanding of STING signalling and may assist in developing targeted therapies for STING-driven diseases.
