A single bulk soil sample from a massive matrix supported debris flow unit on which the
current/modern soil is developing was floated to recover organic fragments suitable for radiocarbon
analysis. This sample was recovered from the mouth of a canyon near Luning, Nevada. Botanic
components and detrital charcoal were identified, and potentially radiocarbon datable material was
separated.
