资源简介:
The study concerns the influence of emotions on risky decision-making, in the context of making decisions either for oneself or for a stranger. While the topic of the impact of emotions on decision-making is well-developed, there are still gaps in knowledge regarding the specific contexts in which such decisions are made (Rivers et al., 2008). The literature has noted differences in decision-making on behalf of others, but these decisions do not typically relate to situations involving risk (Jonas et al., 2005), even though this context appears to be a socially common phenomenon. Given that the influence of emotions on risk-taking has also been demonstrated by numerous researchers (Isen & Patrick, 1983), it is reasonable to expect that these factors may interact or influence each other in some way.The study posed two research questions: Does making decisions on behalf of a stranger influence the level of risk taken by the decision-maker, and does the level of risk differ depending on whether the decision-maker is experiencing joy? The hypotheses assumed that individuals making decisions for a stranger would bet more money than when playing for themselves, and that joy would have a positive effect on the amount of money participants are willing to stake.Joy was evoked using affective pictures, and risky decisions were assessed through a lottery game. A total of 146 participants, mostly students from various fields, took part in the study. The results indicated differences between decisions made for oneself and those made on behalf of others.
