Forested Riparian Buffer Duck River Watershed

Overview This layer was created using the Flowlines and Waterbodies layers for the Upper and Lower Duck River watersheds from the National Hydrography Dataset Plus (https://www.epa.gov/waterdata/nhdplus-national-hydrography-dataset-plus). A 300 ft buffer was created around each stream and river using the “buffer” tool in ArcGIS pro. This buffer layer was then overlayed with a forest cover layer extracted from the National Land Cover Database (https://www.usgs.gov/centers/eros/science/annual-national-land-cover-database) using the “Summararize within” tool in ArcGIS pro. The resulting feature layer provides percent forest cover for the riparian buffers at the level of stream reach code. Feature Layer Riparian_Forest_Duck_Joined represents buffered stream segments and the summarized forested area associated with each segment. The layer supports evaluation of forest cover within riparian zones and includes attributes that describe watershed, hydrologic, and summary calculations related to stream reaches. Geographic Coverage The service covers the Upper and Lower Duck River watersheds within the SCTDD region.
