National Greenhouse Gas allowance pathway consistent with the SSP-RCPs for 2015-2100

Greenhouse gas (GHG) allowance allocation remains a critical point of debate in international climate negotiations. Existing studies have allocated national GHG allowances based on multiple principles; however, they primarily focus on determining overall GHG allowance quotas rather than allowance pathways. This limitation makes it difficult to dynamically assess a country’s GHG mitigation efforts and formulate climate change mitigation-related finance projects. Here, we develop a tool to calculate national GHG allowance pathways, which covers nine combinations of Socioeconomic Pathways and Representative Concentration Pathways (SSP-RCPs), 14 allocation principles, and four types of GHGs (i.e., CO₂, CH₄, N₂O, and F-Gases). This tool and its associated database are crucial for fair and just global climate governance.
