This paper presents the scientific rationale for replacing climate-maladapted coniferous species - spruce, pine, black pine - with locally adapted native trees: Oriental plane (Platanus orientalis), Syr Darya poplar (Populus pruinosa), white willow (Salix alba), black poplar (Populus nigra), white mulberry (Morus alba), Russian olive (Elaeagnus angustifolia) and tamarisk (Tamarix ramosissima) - in urban and rural greening programmes of the Khorezm region, Uzbekistan, under its arid, hot continental climate. Drawing on internationally verified data from UNEP (2025), WMO (2025) and IMF (2022), regional climate change trends are analysed. The ecological advantages, drought and heat tolerance, growth rates and carbon sequestration potential of the target species are reviewed on the basis of peer-reviewed literature. The findings demonstrate that using indigenous species ensures not only greening efficiency but also long-term ecosystem stability within the «Yashil makon» national programme.
