Further asterosaponins from the Vietnamese starfish <i>Archaster typicus</i>

Using combined chromatographic separations, seven asterosaponins, including two new ones archasterosides D and E (<b>1</b> and <b>2</b>), were isolated from the methanol extract of the starfish <i>Archaster typicus</i>. Their chemical structures were characterized by extensive analysis of the 1D, 2D NMR, and HR QTOF mass spectra. Among isolated compounds, asteropiside A (<b>3</b>) revealed significant cytotoxic effect against all the five cell lines SK-LU-1 (lung carcinoma), HepG2 (hepatocarcinoma), MCF7 (breast carcinoma), LNCaP (prostate carcinoma), and KB (carcinoma in the mouth) with IC<sub>50</sub> values ranging from 9.80 ± 0.58 to 13.88 ± 1.01 µM.
