A Co-based catalyst was previously used to hydrodeoxygenate crude tall oil (CTO) and study the reaction mechanisms in the TOSCA instrument by INS. The results indicated minimal changes in the INS bands, suggesting that the catalyst had low activity due to being reduced at a low temperature to comply with the Inconel cell limit. In the next phase, hydrodeoxygenation of CTO and oleic acid will be conducted on a Ni-based SiO2-supported catalyst, which has been demonstrated to fully reduce at 350 °C. The results will offer valuable molecular insights into catalytic activity for the production of renewable fuels through the HDO process of CTO.
