This dataset presents differential gene expression analysis at the mRNA level, highlighting the effects of six SARS-CoV-2 variants on 36 genes linked to inflammation, anti-inflammation, transcriptional regulation, drug metabolism, and membrane transport. The study utilized lung and nasal turbinate tissues from 21 male and 21 female Syrian golden hamsters to uncover these variant-specific effects. Additionally, it delves into the effects of angiotensin II and the D614G variant, individually and in combination, on lung gene expression in seven- and four-month-old male and female Syrian golden hamsters, comprising 23 of each sex, offering new insights into age- and sex-dependent gene regulation. The nCounter analysis system (NanoString Technologies, Seattle, WA) was used to quantify mRNA expression, and the associated data analysis software, nSolver® 4.0 software and the Advanced Analysis 2.0 package was used to perform genomic data analysis.
