Non-axenic culture of Microcystis aeruginosa and its associated microbiome

Non-axenic culture of Microcystis aeruginosa NPLJ4 incubated with macrophyte extracts of Pontederia crassipes and Pistia extratiotes. Both aqueous extract affected the growth and oxidative responses of Microcystis, which were reduced when cyanobacteria was supplemented with associated bacteria that grew after early exposure to the macrophyte extracts. Thus, we evidenced a protective role of this associated bacterial community instead of a cyanocide effect.
