BLOOM and BLOOM II campaign - Pollen datasets

This repository contains datasets from the two Hirst-type volumetric sampler (Hirst, 1952) Lanzoni VPPS 2000 (Lanzoni, s.r.l., Bologna, Italy) used during the BLOOM (turBulence and oLea pOllen prOperties experiMent) and BLOOM II campaigns. This campaigns took place at the Guadiana-UGR station (37.91ºN, 3.23ºW, 370 m asl) in Southern Spain, within the framework of the INTEGRATYON3 project (PID2020-117825GB-C21 and PID2020-117825GB-C22), funded by MCIN/AEI/10.13039/501100011033. Two files have been uploaded: “BLOOM campaign” and “BLOOM II campaign,” corresponding to hourly pollen count data collected during the BLOOM campaign (April 21, 2022 to June 10, 2022) and the BLOOM II campaign (March 21, 2023 to June 2, 2023), respectively. In both campaigns, two Hirst-type volumetric samplers were installed at heights of 1.5 m and 7.5 m. Pollen counting was performed by making two sweeps under an optical microscope; the values from both sweeps were summed and then multiplied by a correction factor of 1.08. The analysis followed the minimum sample coverage of 10%, as recommended by the European Aeroallergen Network (Galán et al., 2014) and the Spanish Aerobiology Network (REA) in its Quality and Management Manual (Galán et al., 2007). Each file contains four sheets. The first two sheets (one for each Hirst sampler) list the identified pollen types, with two columns per type showing the hourly raw pollen counts from the first and second sweeps, without applying the correction factor. Additionally, the sum of both sweeps for each pollen type is also included in these sheets. The last two sheets present the hourly corrected pollen counts (multiplied by 1.08) for the 1.5 m and 7.5 m collectors, respectively.
