This dataset contains transcriptomic sequencing data generated for the study “Retinoic acid-related orphan nuclear receptor alpha promotes cartilage degeneration in osteoarthritis by activating the Wnt/β-catenin pathway.” The dataset includes RNA-seq data from primary mouse chondrocytes under control and osteoarthritis-like conditions, as well as RNA-seq data from articular cartilage tissues isolated from chondrocyte-specific RORα conditional knockout mice and wild-type littermate controls. These data were used to identify differentially expressed genes and enriched biological pathways associated with osteoarthritis-like chondrocyte degeneration and RORα deficiency. Differential expression analysis was performed to explore the downstream regulatory mechanisms of RORα in cartilage degeneration. The results supported the involvement of Wnt/β-catenin-related transcriptional programs and cholesterol/lipid metabolism-associated genes in RORα-mediated regulation of cartilage extracellular matrix metabolism. These data provide supporting evidence for the conclusion that RORα is functionally linked to β-catenin/Wnt signaling and contributes to extracellular matrix degradation during osteoarthritis progression. The dataset is provided to support transparency, reproducibility, and further reuse of the transcriptomic analyses reported in the associated manuscript.
